Make (formerly Integromat) is Zapier's most capable competitor — offering more complex automation scenarios with a visual, node-based interface. While Zapier uses simple triggers and actions, Make enables sophisticated branching logic, data transformation, and parallel processing. After building enterprise-grade automations on both platforms, we prefer Make for complex workflows and Zapier for simple ones.

How to Use Make (Integromat)

Getting Started with Make

Create a free account at make.com — the free tier includes 1,000 operations per month. Make's visual workflow builder shows scenarios as connected nodes, making complex automations easy to understand. Start with one of Make's many templates and modify it to your needs.

Building Your First Scenario

A scenario in Make starts with a trigger (an event that starts the automation) followed by action modules. Example: trigger on new email attachment → filter by file type → save to Google Drive → send Slack notification. Use the drag-and-drop interface to connect modules and configure data mapping between them.

Advanced Data Transformation

Make's strength over Zapier is data transformation. Use the "Text" module to manipulate strings, the "Aggregator" module to collect multiple records, and the "Iterator" module to process arrays. For example, you can receive a spreadsheet, split it into individual rows, process each row through an API call, and compile the results back into a report — all in one scenario.

Error Handling

Set up error handling routes in your scenarios. Right-click any module connection to add a "Break" or "Ignore" handler for failed operations.
